Cookie Policy

What we store on your device, and how you stay in control. Effective August 28, 2026.

The short version

We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies and similar storage to make this site work. Anything beyond that, meaning analytics and advertising, loads only after you say yes. If you do nothing, nothing optional loads. You can change your answer at any time using the button below or the "Your Privacy Choices" link in the footer of every page.

What a cookie is here

"Cookie" is shorthand for several similar technologies: cookies, browser local storage, and small tracking scripts called pixels or tags. This policy covers all of them. Some are set by us, and some would be set by a third party such as Google or Meta if you allow advertising.

The three categories

1. Strictly necessary (always on)

These make the site function and cannot be switched off. They do not follow you to other websites.

  • Your privacy choice, stored as te-consent in local storage. It records which categories you allowed so we do not ask again on every page. Without it, we could not honor your decision.
  • Your accessibility settings, stored as te-a11y in local storage. Remembers larger text, high contrast and the other display options from the accessibility button.
  • A loading-animation flag, which remembers that you have already seen the opening animation during this visit.
  • Hosting security cookies set by Cloudflare, our host, to protect the site from automated abuse and to serve pages quickly.

2. Analytics (off until you allow it)

Tells us which pages are used and how quickly they load, so we can improve the site. We see totals, never a profile of you.

Note that Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is active on this site, is intentionally cookieless: it sets nothing on your device, does not fingerprint your browser and cannot follow you to other sites, so it runs without needing consent. If we add a cookie-based analytics tool such as Google Analytics, it will sit in this category and will load only with your permission.

3. Advertising (off until you allow it)

If you allow this category, we may load advertising and measurement tags from Google and Meta so we can see which ads bring people to the site and show our ads to relevant audiences. These tags set third-party cookies and share online identifiers, such as a cookie ID or IP address, with those companies.

This is the category that matters most for your privacy, which is why it is off by default and why we treat turning it down as an opt-out of the sale or sharing of personal information under California law. The providers we would use are:

Current status

As of the effective date above, no advertising or analytics tags are switched on. The consent tool is in place and ready, so that when we do begin advertising, no tag can fire before you have been asked. We will update the date on this page when that changes.

How we handle Global Privacy Control

Some browsers and extensions send a Global Privacy Control signal, an automatic opt-out request. We detect it. When it is present, the advertising category is switched off and locked, we tell you so in the preferences panel, and we treat it as your opt-out of the sale and sharing of your personal information under California and other state laws. You do not need to do anything else.

Changing your mind

Use the "Open cookie preferences" button above, or the "Your Privacy Choices" link in the footer of any page. Turning a category off stops those tags loading from that point on; cookies a third party already set are removed by clearing your browser's cookies for this site, which you can do in your browser settings.

Every major browser also lets you block or delete cookies for all sites. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of this site working, including our ability to remember that you declined the optional ones.

Do Not Track

There is still no common industry standard for the older Do Not Track browser setting. We honor the newer Global Privacy Control signal instead, as described above, and we treat a Do Not Track signal the same way.

If we add a tool or change how a category works, we will update this page and, where the change is significant, ask you for your choice again.
